ARE YOU THE ONE GOD IS SEARCHING FOR?
By Brianna Villines
Picture this. You’re in a sanctuary. The speaker is talking about some subject that you’re not really interested in or maybe you’ve heard a hundred “lectures” about it, so you begin to doze off. Unintentionally, of course, but as you slip away into your thoughts of the days activities, God is walking through the aisles, looking for a heart yearning to serve Him. Someone who is willing to sacrifice everything for Him. Would He see you as an eager soul?
So a few weeks ago I heard a devotional, and the speaker mentioned a verse in Ezekiel about God searching. At first I was thinking, “God…searching…He knows everything, why would He search…” But the verse says this:
“I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but found no one.”
Think about it. Sure, the land that God was referring to was Israel and that isn’t completely applicable to our situation right now, but still God is searching. He knows all of our motives, ambitions, passions, everything that we strive for. The most important motive, ambition, passion is that we are willing to serve God.
I’m sure that God’s search isn’t hard to complete. Some people just have this desire to serve Him and aren’t afraid to let everyone know about it. There are also other people who are more reserved, yet they are constantly willing to let God use them. In both scenarios, God knows their heart and can see their evident longing.
A lot of times, there are distractions everywhere for us to be attracted to, for us to follow into a different lifestyle. When we take our eyes off of God, we’re no longer usable. It’s amazingly easy to fall out of God’s path and not even realize it until later, when you wish you could go back and make the right choices. One of the best ways to stay on track is to remind yourself, He’s searching. If you want to be used, there’s a distinct way He’s made for you to make your decisions.
When God is scanning the world for an open heart, will He see you as one who is longing to be used by Him?
